JUST IN !: Government Will Not Reopen Schools Any Time Soon-- Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

The Ministry of information through the honourable Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has stated that government has not come to a final decision on when schools will reopen.

This statement came after some teacher unions, parents and other stakeholders expressed their worries on grounds of the speculated  news about governments decision to reopen schools. The concerned parents and teacher unions lamented that reopening of schools at such a time when Ghana's cases of Covid-19 victims keeps surging to bigger figures will pose a threat to teachers and students.

These claims, according to the Information Minister at a press briefing causing the unrest are however not true.

According to him, government is currently in long and careful considerations on possible ways to reopen schools void of putting the precious lives of both students and staff in danger.
"Government is not saying that schools are to reopen soon. So if there has been a misinformation or something of the sort, just to put in in the right context. Consultation on what it takes to reopen schools as part of the potentially easing of general restrictions that we have been living under, what we are currently engaged in," he stressed.
The Minister also observed that with no cure or vaccine for the novel coronavirus, people must learn to live as normally as they can to live with the virus. Noting that people cannot live in confinement forever hence, challenging citizens to come up with ideas that can assist government in easing the restrictions imposed on certain activities.

"It is okay to have worries, it is okay to wonder how this will be done, but we must channel those worries towards answering the question, 'What does it take ? What should be the indication of a good time ?

"What will be the best way to protect teachers, non-teachers, students? if we are to open up at some point."

The Ofoase Ayirebi MP said, "The deeper the public engagement, the better option we will have."
